It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
At least it was the five days we spent here. Today's the last and in the morning we head over to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Founded in 1805 PAFA it's the first art museum and school of fine arts in the U.S. We started with the historic collection housed in the 1876 Historic Landmark Building, considered one of the finest surviving examples of Gothic Architecture in the county. After that it was on to the lofty space of the Samuel MV Hamilton building which is home to the temporary exhibits and contemporary art. After with only a couple hours to spare before we needed to leave for the airport we browsed the Reading Terminal Market, the oldest continually operating market in the US. When William Penn's managers first established the town of Philadelphia, one of their first actions was to herd the crowd of farmers, fisherman and huntsman who were hawking their goods all over the new settlement in an open air market on the Delaware River. Pretty soon this so-called "Jersey Market", as most merchants were from the neighbouring state, moved westward to what was soon named Market St. By the middle of the 19th century the string of market sheds had become six blocks long. This was a magnificent market! After the market we headed to the airport. Good-bye Philly, thanks for the love!
