October 26 - Day 464

An Apple A Day...
Is what I eat in the fall.  Call me boring but they are one of my favourite fruits.

October 25 - Day 463

Ghosting.
It's time to decorate for Halloween!

October 24 - Day 462

Last Blooms
Besides the mums, these are my last blooms of the season.

October 23 - Day 461

Rockcliffe Park
Before brunch at Murray St we take a drive through Rockcliffe Park, stopping to take a few photos of Gatineau, across the River.

October 22 - Day 460

Zombieland.
"What do we want?  Brains! When do we want them?  Brains!"  After a lovely morning strolling through Hintonburg and Westboro, we arrive at Parliament Hill.  As we do, so do 1200 zombies participating in the 6th annual Zombie Walk.

October 21 - Day 459

Highway-bots.
Megs, k2 and I are en route to Ottawa to visit Em, AmyMacs and Chartrand.  Here is a view out of the passenger side window - some hydro towers that remind me of robots.

October 20 - Day 458

Stuck.
A leaf plastered to my garage window after the rain and wind of the past couple days.  I know, the window needs to be cleaned.  I'm on it.

October 19 - Day 457

In September I was lucky to find out that some of the photos I submitted to the Perth County Greenworks Photo Contest were chosen to appear in the 2012 calendar ( Day 248, Day 262 &  Day 280) and the calendar is now availabe for sale!  Calendars are available for purchase at Your Local Market co-op, The Green Hair Spa, The COunty Food Co., The Gentle Rain, The Slow Food Market, P'Lovers, Feathered Friends Boutique, The ReStore, The Stratford Gazette, The Journal Argus in St. Marys, and the Perth Visitors Centre in Shakespeare.  Cost is only $5.00 - PS - close friends and relatives do not buy.   Christmas is coming ;)

Just what is Perth County Greenworks? "Perth County Green Works has been developing and promoting projects with the intent of creating sustainable communities through resources conservation, pollution prevention, and the adoption of ecologically sound practices in Perth County.

October 17 - Day 455

Stogie.
Besides this guy, my home is non-smoking.

October 16 - Day 454

Law & Order
Outdoor illumination at Parlee/Linley Law offices.

October 15- Day 453

Mr. Mouse.
One thing I'm not used to with owning a pet.  The toys, all over.  But I guess some faux pas floor decor is worth it.

October 14 - Day 452

Mellow Yellow.
And the third colour of Mums purchased this year is...

October 13 - Day 451

Day 9 With The Finn Man.
You have to figure that Finn is going to factor into this blog at least once a week for the next little while.

October 12 - Day 450

Pun'kin.
Two pumpkins are added to the porch.  Hopefully  you'll see them at the end of the month.  I'm hoping to carve these up real nice.

October 11 - Day 449

Drive By.
Another shot from a vehicle.  This time as I'm stopped at a red light on Ontario St headed toward Huron.  I would have preferred to take this outside of a car (to avoid the glare), but I was afraid of missing the sky and I couldn't really get this angle on foot, you know, without running into traffic.

October 10 - Day 448

Thanksgiving Monday.
On the way to M & J's for Thanksgiving Dinner I'm able to take this shot as we approach New Hamburg.

October 9 - Day 447

Finn.
Getting braver every day and exploring more of the house, Finn enjoys basking in the sun on the front porch.

October 8 - Day 446

Blue Skies.
Walking home after coffee with C & R, enjoying an absolutely beautiful day!

October 7 - Day 445

Hill. Billy.
A "Nashville" salt and pepper shaker I bought for a dime many years ago.  The jugs are a little impractical for your salt and pepper needs so "Bill" gets prime real estate in the kitchen display cabinet.

October 6 - Day 444

Leaves, Trees, Forest.
Let "Foliage 2011" begin!

October 5 - Day 443

Seeds.
"The smallest things in life - such as these tiny sprouts - given time and the will to forge on, can overcome any circumstance and break down huge barriers" - Dailyom - Madisyn Taylor
Weeds growing out of the Avoncrest building.

October 4 - Day 442

New Roomie.
I have a new roommate. He's 10 weeks old and his name if Finn.  I've adopted him from the Feline Friends Network.  Finn and his mom were feral cats, who were trapped.  Finn's mom was neutered and released ((TNR = trap neuter and release) while Finn remained to be put up for adoption.  How could I say no to this face?

October 3 - Day 441

What are Phrases Only Your Nana Can Get Away With Writing In Greeting Cards?

"You go girl."

(Adding to the amazing support I've been given from family and friends regarding me new job a congratulations card I received in the mail today from my Nana & Chet)

October 2 - Day 440

Roasted Eggplant & Chickpea Soup.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  In a large bowl toss together 1 large eggplant, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces, 1 small yellow onion medium diced, 2 garlic cloves unpeeled, and 4 TSP olive oil.  Season with salt and pepper.  Arrange in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet, leaving a wide strip of empty space at one end.  In bowl, toss 1 can rinsed and drained chickpeas with 2 TSP olive oil.  Transfer to empty space on the sheet.  Roast until eggplant is golden and cooked through and chickpeas are slightly crunchy, about 35 min.  Set chickpeas aside.  Peel garlic and add to medium pot, along with eggplant, onion and 4 cups vegetable broth.  Bring mixture to a simmer over med-high heat.  With a potato masher or back of a wooden spoon, mash some eggplant until soup is thick and chunky.  Stir in chickpeas and season to taste with salt and pepper.  Can be served with plain yogurt if desired.  Source: Whole Living.  Cooking Tunes: Shuffle

October 1 - Day 439

Fields of Corn.
Sunset, dirt roads and cornfields make for a beautiful photo/day.

September 30 - Day 438

Hardy Mums.
This year I've gone crazy and got 3 different colours of mums for the front porch.  Orange which you can see from Day 435, this red/purple colour and I'm not going to tell you the third.  It might end up as a photo/day!

September 29 - Day 437

West Perth Thames Nature Trail & Wetlands.
I'm on "staycation" this week before I start a new job so I decided to hike some of the West Perth Thames Nature Trail & Wetlands in Mitchell today.  The soundtrack for my 1.5 hour stroll was a chorus of Canadian Geese.

September 28 - Day 436

Lil' Miss Dobson.
I don't sit on tuffets or eat curds and whey but "Charlotte" better move before I need to use the clothes line or get to my tomato plant.

September 27 - Day 435

The Very Lucky Caterpillar.
I stopped and picked up another mum for my front porch today.  I put it on the roof of the car to free my hands as I unlocked the door.  When I did this I noticed an orange caterpillar on one of the buds.  Carefully I took it off and placed it on the ground.  I then got in my car put on my seatbelt, felt guilty, got out of the car, picked up the caterpillar and put back on the mum.  It made the car ride home and will hopefully have a happy life on my front porch instead of being flattened by a car, cart  or by foot, in the zehrs parking lot.

September 26 - Day 434

Cod With Leeks & Tomatoes
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  In a baking dish toss together 2 medium leeks, white and green parts only, thinly sliced, rinsed well, and patted dry, 2 TBSP fresh lemon juice, 1 TBSP olive oil, 1 TSP finely grated lemon zest, 1 TSP dried thyme, 1/2 TSP salt and 1/4 TSP ground pepper.  Cover with foil and bake until leeks just begin to soften, 8 to 10 minutes.  Remove baking dish from oven.  Add cherry or grape tomatoes and toss to combine.  Season both sides of cod fillets with salt and pepper; place on top of vegetables.  Cover dish and bake until the fish is opaque throughout, about 15 to 20 minutes.  Serve immediately.
