Some crazy clouds on my way home from yoga tonight.

June 26 - Day 342
Jewels of Ontario
I stopped by the Sunday Slow Food Farmer's Market this morning and picked up some Ontario strawberries. YUMMY! I also picked up a tomato plant and a pepper plant. Thank you to the kind gentleman who sold me the plants, he snuck an extra tomato plant into my bag when I wasn't looking, so this year I'll have red and yellow 'tomaters'!

Nana!
This is my Nana. She's not sleeping she's reading a book. She HATES having her photo taken, so I had to get this one paparazzi styles, hiding behind the love seat. She caught me once when the light on the camera caught her eye, "Amanda's shining a light in my eyes" she tattled to my mom, and then put the book in front of her face. I waited it out. Five minutes later the book returned to her lap and I got this. Ha!

'Shrooms.
A shot taken on my walk through the Old Grove after work today. Good thing my rubber boots were in my car trunk, as it was a pretty muddy adventure.

June 23 - Day 339
R. Thompson
I hosted my parents and grandparents for dinner tonight. My step-grandfather is a big history buff, so after dinner I should him some of the documents I found when I renovated my bathroom. Why they were stored in the bathroom, who knows? The documents are from one family who owned a farm before moving to my current home. Every store receipt/tax form/invoice from the late 1940's to 70's was saved, and this is one of them. I know it doesn't look like a bill or store receipt, it's a notice to turnip growers, but on the back it's a handwritten expense sheet tallying the costs of mower repairs, a side rake, salt, insurance, bolts, the veterinary surgeon and capons (which I just found out are castrated roosters!?!). Grand total $34.25

Knob
Glass door knob on my closet door. I think I've mentioned this, but I'm lucky to have glass knobs on all the doors in my house. So pretty.

Avocado, Banana & Walnut Muffins
A variation on my standard banana muffin recipe (featured October 11). Variations - mash 3 bananas and 2 ripe avocados instead of 4 bananas, add 1 tsp pure vanilla extract and instead of chocolate chips use walnuts. Ta-da!

Looks like some grandchildren visited the Towers this weekend or they've started an outdoor art therapy program. (sarcasm - kidding - I support art therapy)

B-day & F-day
Happy Birthday to my mom and Happy Father's Day to my dad! More people practice today, although I'm beginning to think George makes it too easy.

June 18 - Day 334
Moo-Cow.After a family dinner (enjoy your visit Nana & C!) I took a round-about-scenic route home and caught a shot of this calf. I was trying to get more of the herd but apparently they were camera shy because they booted it when I started taking shots. This guy was the straggler.
June 17 - Day 333
Camouflage.
This photo won't win awards for sharp image quality but I like how the light and leaves work together to throw shadows almost camouflaging the bird perched on the branch.

June 16 - Day 332
Pasta with No Cook Tomato Sauce. In a large bowl toss together campari tomatoes quartered, 1 orange bell pepper, diced medium, 1/8 cup of olive oil, 1 TBSP red wine vinegar, and 1 clove garlic minced. Let sit at room temperature 20 minutes. In a large pot of boiling salted water cook pasta. Drain and add pasta to sauce, tossing to combine. Serve topped with arugula and herbed goat cheese.
Adapted from Everyday Food - note I had to adjust recipe as original serves 4 - to serve 4 use 2 pints cherry or grape tomatoes, 2 peppers and 1/4 cup olive oil and 2 TBSP red wine vinegar. Cooking Tunes - a yoga playlist I created with tunes by Adele, Hawksley Workman, Florence & The Machine, & Radiohead to name a few..
June 15 - Day 331
Senior Star.
Awhile back a participant/ friend from my yoga class asked if I would be interested in taking photos at this year's Senior Star, presented by Chartwell. A reader of my blog she knew I'm not a big people-picture-taker and she thought it would be a great chance to practice. In total six gentleman performed at Upper Queen's Park, proving that like fine wine sometimes talent just gets better with age. I had a great time taking the photos and was able to catch a few "moments" for my portfolio. (Thanks for the opportunity B!)

Late Bloomers
My peonies opened today - a few days behind the ones at Churchill circle. This is the last year they will bloom in the corner of my backyard, hidden by overgrowth and neighbours to the composter, as I plan to transplant them to a more prominent location.

BABY DUCKS!!!
I had a hard time picking today's shot. On my morning run I had noticed all the baby ducks and cygnets and made a mental note to come back later in the day for a shot. Today's finalists included this winning shot of these two out of a group of ten ducklings (I don't know if they were all related or if the one female they were with was running a ducky day care), a group of three cygnets and one other ducky swimming that literally looked like he was smiling!

Peonies, If You Please.
This is the garden at Churchill Circle, as featured with the daffodil shot on May 5th. The peonies are now in full bloom. Vibrant pinks, reds and whites. Showing some Canadian pride perhaps?

June 6 - Day 322
Cat In The Sink.At my parent's house for dinner tonight I discover Darby is the perfect size for the bathroom sink. (Actually I discovered it a couple weeks ago, but he doesn't go in it unless I put him there - no worries - he loves it. Hope I haven't started a bad habit!)
June 5 - Day 321
Shots From A Bouncy Castle. After a night out there's not a better place to hang out then in a inflatable-bouncy-castle-type thing with a four and one year old. At least they were happy enough with me just lying down and bouncing around me. Here J is a little contemplative before she climbs in for another bounce.
June 4 - Day 320
Double D's (Or Do Blondes Have More Fun?)3 Dobson's and a mother's maiden name Dobson had a lovely girl's night out in Port Dalhouise. Thanks for the fun night ladies!!
June 3 - Day 319
Duck-stractions.I was late for work today for 3 reasons: 1) I slept through my alarm 2) I got to the circle and realized I was wearing my cruddy old flip flops - not work appropriate 3) As I was getting back into my car to head off to work I saw this duck land on my across the street neighbour's roof and I had to get a photo.
June 2 - Day 318
Soba Salad with Asparagus & Shrimp In a large pot of boiling salted water cook asparagus until crisp-tender, about 3 minutes. With a slotted spoon transfer asparagus to a colander and rinse under cool water to stop the cooking. Return water to a boil and add soba noodles and cook according to package instructions. When finished cooking drain noodles and rinse under cool water. While soba is cooking saute shrimp in a little olive oil and garlic. To make the dressing for the salad whisk together 3TBSP low-sodium soy sauce, 1 TBSP sesame oil, 1 TSBP rice vinegar and 1 TBSP sugar. (Dressing is for 4 so you may have to adjust). Place soba in bowl, top with shrimp and asparagus, drizzle with dressing and top with green onions. Adapted from: Everyday Food. Cooking Tunes: Octoberman, FortressJune 1 - Day 317
Babs. This is the cover of one of my coffee table books, entitled; "How to talk with practically anybody about practically anything" by Barbara Walters. Published in 1970 this books reveals Babs' personal rules for conversation success as she vividly describes her experiences on and off camera. Content includes how to talk to: the celebrity, the tycoon (including female tycoon's and the tycoon's wife), royalty and other VIP, the young and the old and difficult people (including bores and drunks). There is also a chapter "all about you" which gives tips on hair, clothes and charm, a chapter on giving parties and my favourite "How to Win a New Boss, or Husband - A Good Girl's Guide for When to Be Sexy, and When Not". Don't miss the introduction "How to Talk with Aristotle Onassis, in Which is Embodied, the Secret of How to Talk with Practically Anybody, but Especially Truman Capote". Oh Babs. (I did take this book to a party shortly after I got it. I didn't know a lot of people there and I wanted to be prepared in case any of them were Tycoons).
May 31 - Day 316
The Ants Go Marching. My peonies in the backyard are getting plenty of visits from these guys. Through some quick research I've learned they are attracted to the sweet resin exuded on the flower buds and that there is a longstanding myth that they "tickle the buds" to help them open.
